And if your talking about what draws a kid to campus... have you seen the babe's on campus at USC and UCLA? SoCal has draw power baby... 18 & 19 year old kids, love to be loved by the babes - bodacious babes... and SoCal is swarming with them.
Absolutely, and USC/UCLA's location is the biggest reason that they are two of the most successful program's out West, historically. It's no secret that USC/UCLA and Washington are the top 3 historical programs, and they reside in LA and Seattle. It's also no secret that Washington State, Oregon State, and Oregon are at the bottom of the Pac-10 historically, and they reside in Pullman, Corvallis, and Eugene.

Los Angeles is a recruiting hotbed and it makes it easy on the college programs in the area. Growing up in this city, if you played football, you wanted to go to USC, and if basketball was your sport, you had dreams about UCLA. The history of the programs is the draw. When I was younger, I was go to Pauley Pavilion with kids from the neighborhood and actually shoot on their court, beneath all those championship banners. We would also watch the UCLA basketball team practice. We lived closer to USC, but being a private school, you can't just wander around their campus without security escorting you out. One of my neighbors that came with us was Harold Miner. He was only in grade school then, but you could already see the talent. He eventually went on to set a USC freshman scoring record in basketball and become the NBA slam dunk champion. Like the rest of us that were into hoops, he dreamed of playing ball at UCLA. He ended up at USC, because the bruins took it for granted that they had him locked up, because he was a local kid, and didn't recruit him hard enough.

Haha Harold Miner. I used to collect his basketball cards growing up. He was one of my favorites behind larry johnson. What a freaking bust.

USC couldnt pay me enough to go there. Im not a big city type of person.

Harold Miner's family was the poorest on the street. He used to get teased about never having any Nike shoes. Nike eventually became his agent. My brother played against Larry Johnson twice in college. The second game kept my bro's squad from advancing to the final four.

...and have you ever seen the women at USC?!?!?

Yes, I've seen the women at USC and there are some real dream dolls.
Take your breath away dream dolls...

But, I wonder if the historically weak teams, Oregon State, Washington State, and Oregon rank higher than the last two teams admitted to the PAC, Arizona and Az State.

Rank as far as what, women? Oregon has the best looking cheer squad in the country...and the two Arizona schools are probably known more for their co-eds than their sports.

Was not referring to babes or lack thereof in this case, I was referring to Oregon's post about recruiting and performance... Traditionally, USC/UCLA/Washington being better over the long haul than Oregon State, Washington state and Oregon...

I was wondering if since the inclusion of Az and Az state, maybe their performance has been below some of the more northern teams list above.

I recall them having a few big cities, but not massive population centers and not a noted recruitng haven. Yes they have the few good recruits and some great ones, but not as many as SoCal and I think not as many as the big school areas up North. Portland and Seattle areas.

All those programs rely heavily on California recruits...and it doesn't help any when you lose your best in-state prospects. USC grabbed Everson Griffen, and Kristofer O'Dowd from Arizona, and now they've added Devon Kennard. Troy Polamalu was from Oregon. Taylor Mays from Washington. Oregon pulled Dennis Dixon from Northern California.

Well you have to admit, that USC is playing better and gets more televised national coverage due to it's continued high ranking... USC has more kids going to the NFL than the rest of the conference put together.

Those two facts mean increased visibility to scouts and to NFL coachs. And that means more eyes are pointed at USC and kids want that visibility. Talented kids crave that visibility... and fankly that's totally understandable.

As long as USC continues to perform and win at a higher level, it should get the most competitive minded and talented kids coming into the program.
